Welcome to the NumBlog!

What is NumBots?
You may have heard of NumBots already, as we have been live in schools since September 2019 and we are now launching NumBots for Family and Tutor subscribers in February 2021. We’ve introduced this blog so we can help you get the most out of the game, be it home learning tips, providing pedagogical context or, most importantly, sharing the story behind the robots!

NumBots is a self-paced educational platform combined with an interactive, robot-immersed game. The aim of NumBots is to ensure children develop a core understanding of maths from an early age, establishing a strong mathematical foundation which they can build upon as they progress through their education.

With the focus on addition and subtraction, NumBots is well aligned with the White Rose Maths Objectives, which emphasise the importance of learning addition and subtraction in Year 1 to Year 4 programmes. For this reason, we would recommend that a child begins their NumBots adventure between the ages of 5 and 7. Extending this to the national curriculum, an aim of NumBots is to help children reach a level of fluency in their mathematical problem solving skills – something that is heavily endorsed by the aims of the Key Stage 1 programme

NumBots provides children with access to regular practise both at home and in the classroom. With approximately 1300 levels in ‘Story Mode’, the game also has longevity; on average children take approximately 2 years to complete the game. By the time a child has completed the game, they should have transitioned from using their fingers to count, to fluently adding and subtracting two-digit numbers in their head. This will provide them with the confident and can-do attitude required for excelling at maths.
